Climate Register

The Smithsons have long been sensitive to the manner in which the detailing of a building can be informed by the circumstances and nuances of place, of which the weather is a universal given . This publication interprets their work through the filter of the climate register , using the example of four projects: the Economist Building, Second Arts Building, Bath, the unbuilt Kuwait Mat-Building, and the Alexandrina Library competition entry. The result of research by the AA s Diploma Unit 6, Climate Register is in a sense a mediated conversation between students and the Smithsons -- between two generations of architects.
